Bryce Young 2023 Outlook
The Panthers weren't messing around after five straight years with no playoffs, trading up to the top of the draft and selecting a QB in Round 1 for the first time since Cam Newton in 2011. Like Newton, also a No. 1 overall pick and a Heisman Trophy winner from the SEC, Young brings mobility, arm strength and accuracy to the job. Trading with the Bears cost Carolina a three-time 1,000-yard receiver in D.J. Moore, but the Panthers added wideouts Adam Thielen and D.J. Chark, RB Miles Sanders and TE Hayden Hurst to energize an offense that was 29th in yards in 2022. Carolina also signed a mentor in Andy Dalton, who could open the season as the starter. Young threw for 8,200 yards with a gaudy 79-12 TD-INT ratio in his last two seasons at Alabama, adding seven scores with his legs. "Just complete command, control, poise," new coach Frank Reich said after Young's first day of OTAs. "It was all very good.'
