Garrett Wilson 2023 Outlook
Wilson managed to produce 100-yard games with three different QBs (Joe Flacco, Zach Wilson and Mike White) en route to the 2022 Offensive Rookie of the Year award, so imagine the possibilities with four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers under center for a 17-game slate in 2023. Even with former Rodgers’ running mates Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb and two-time Super Bowl champ Mecole Hardman joining the Jets' receiver room, Wilson is still the WR1 in New York, and he is psyched to follow up his 1,103-yard debut season. "I'm really excited. I feel like we're gonna have a chance to put some points on the board and do something special," he said. On Rodgers' first day with the team, he said the Jets' No. 17 (Wilson) reminded him of another player with those jersey digits: Davante Adams. Wilson earned the lofty comparison by catching multiple passes in 16 games and gaining at least 78 yards in seven of his last 10 contests as a rookie first-round draft pick.
Garrett Wilson 2022 Outlook
The Jets have been on a mission to find a WR1 and, according to ESPN.com's Rich Cimini, in Wilson, they have a potential star and a player who can grow with QB Zach Wilson, WR Elijah Moore and RBs Breece Hall and Michael Carter. He will bring much-needed explosiveness to the offense. Not only does he have excellent speed (4.38 in the 40), but he has elite separation ability and body control. Wilson's experience in multiple roles with Ohio State should set him up well to contribute in the Jets' offense. With Moore capable of moving into the slot, Wilson could start on the outside with Corey Davis or perhaps they'll bring him along slowly and use him to spell Moore, Davis and Braxton Berrios at all three positions. According to SBNation.com, Wilson's playmaking ability with the ball in his hands is one of his most exciting traits, and he posted the best numbers of his career for yards after the catch and broken tackles in 2021. He improved each year at Ohio State, finishing with an outstanding season -- 70 catches, 1,058 yards and 12 touchdowns. While he's on the small side and had some trouble with dropped passes last year, there's a reason he's the Jets' first first-round receiver since Santana Moss in 2001. Bottom line? Wilson is draft worthy and could deliver flex-level production early on.
