Jameson Williams 2022 Outlook
During the first round of this year's NFL Draft, the Lions traded up. With the No. 12 pick acquired from Minnesota, the Lions went ahead and selected Williams, the former Alabama receiver. Despite tearing his ACL back in January, Williams was still one of four receivers that were drafted during the first 15 picks this year. If he's able to fully recover from his knee injury, Williams has the potential to be a special wide receiver in the NFL. As ESPN.com's Eric Woodyard suggested, it's certainly a risk to take a chance on a guy who is recovering from injury and will likely miss part of the season, but Williams' on-the-field talent can't be denied. Williams' rare combination of height, elite speed and quickness make him a major threat for explosive plays. That was on display last season, as he caught eight touchdown catches of 50-plus yards, which tied for the most in a single season by FBS player over the past 15 seasons. Along the way, Williams averaged 19.9 yards per reception, a class-best 13.1 yards per target and 9.5 yards after the catch. In a recent interview with DetroitLions.com, Williams was asked about which NFL receiver he likes to model his game after. "Randy Moss," Williams replied. "I feel like I play similar to him. ..." By adding Williams, the Lions get another speedster who can be a strong weapon for quarterback Jared Goff -- even if he misses some time early this season.
