Drake London 2023 Outlook
London had a capable rookie campaign that represents a building block for his promising future. The No. 8 overall pick in 2022 started 15 of 17 games and was able to produce at a good clip despite the Falcons having quarterback issues with Marcus Mariota at the helm. Desmond Ridder took over for the final four starts and London had 25 receptions for 333 yards. He had his lone 100-yard outing of the season and caught six or more passes three times with Ridder. Overall, he had five games of six or more catches. London was a big-time college player at USC and he was named Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2021 despite fracturing his right ankle and missing the rest of the season. He had 88 catches for 1,084 yards and seven touchdowns in eight games prior to the injury. London recovered well from the setback and didn't have any issues during his first NFL season. A lot of receivers have made a big jump in their second season, and London is a strong candidate to make a similar impact.
Drake London 2022 Outlook
As ESPN.com's Michael Rothstein put it, "The Falcons really -- I mean, really -- needed a wide receiver. ..." Julio Jones was traded last year. Calvin Ridley is suspended for gambling. Russell Gage signed with Tampa Bay as a free agent. So the Falcons had to find receiver talent in this draft. Add to that, head coach Arthur Smith likes big-bodied receivers, and London checks the size box. He's also versatile. He can play inside or outside. According to ESPN.com, he aligned in the slot 96 percent of the time during his first two seasons at USC, but flipped to 85 percent perimeter in 2021. We're not sure exactly how fast he is 40-wise, but London know he was fast enough to rack up over 2,000 receiving yards in three years at USC, including a 1,000-yard season in just eight games before the fractured ankle that kept him from showing that speed at the Combine and his pro day workout. He's an underrated route runner who drew a 38 percent target share, led all WRs in contested catches (19) and in receptions per game (11.0). According to FantasyPros, London concluded his year third in yards per route run (3.52) in his draft class. While the Falcons' QB situation is a concern, London's imposing physical stature, skill set, role and anticipated workload all make him a viable re-draft option as a rookie.
