Pierre Strong Jr. 2023 Outlook
Bill Belichick has made the most of small-school guys before, and the New England Patriots likely drafted Pierre Strong Jr. out of South Dakota State in 2022 hoping he’d be the next in line. Once an FCS All-American, Strong made the team as a rookie and played a bit role. He caught all seven passes he was thrown, and a five-carry, 70-yard, one-TD game against the Arizona Cardinals flashed some fantasy potential. With Damien Harris off to the Buffalo Bills, it’s a new era in New England’s backfield. Can Strong push No. 1 back Rhamondre Stevenson for a greater portion of the carries? He’ll have to outdo James Robinson and Ty Montgomery in camp first, though the latter plays a running back/wide receiver hybrid role and both will be counted on to catch the ball more than run it. The best-case scenario for Strong is that he performs more consistently than Robinson, secures the RB2 job and gets a few looks inside the 10-yard line, even though Stevenson also excels there.
