Rondale Moore 2023 Outlook
Although Moore boosted his average yards per catch by two yards in his second season, it didn’t help that injuries limited him to eight games. That was six fewer than his rookie season of 2021, when Moore also figured occasionally into the Cardinals’ jet sweep running game. Durability also was a concern during Moore’s collegiate career, and he hopes to put that narrative as Arizona aims to move on from a frustrating 2022. One bright spot: Over a three-week span from late October to mid-November, Moore twice flirted with 100-yard games before being sidelined. He caught seven of his eight targets for 92 yards in a narrow loss at Minnesota before contributing nine catches for 94 yards in a division victory at the Los Angeles Rams. The franchise’s coaching change to Jonathan Gannon from Kliff Kingsbury could be the new lease Moore needs as quarterback Kyler Murray tries to return to health and Pro Bowl form in Arizona.
Rondale Moore 2022 Outlook
While he still has the air of a gadget player -- as ESPN.com points out the second-round pick was almost exclusively limited to short-range plays, as 51 percent of his 65 targets were screens, 25 percent of his touches were carries and his 1.3 average depth of target was lowest among 91 qualified wide receivers, Moore could have caught a break heading into his second season as a pro with the league's announcement that DeAndre Hopkins will be suspended the first six games suspension to kick off the 2022 season. As CBSSports.com notes, the ban regards performance-enhancing substances, and in Hopkins' absence, newly acquired Marquise Brown, A.J. Green, Moore and even Antoine Wesley stand to benefit at wide receiver. Considering Hopkins works mostly on the outside, Brown likely will join Green there on the majority of snaps, leaving the slot open for the likes of Moore and veteran tight end Zach Ertz. Still, Moore flashed his potential early last season with 182 receiving yards in his first two NFL games. While the usage over the rest of the year doesn't suggest a breakout is imminent, those interested in perceived upside should be able to land him with a late-round flier.
Rondale Moore 2021 Outlook
The Cardinals selected Purdue's Moore in the second round at No. 49 overall, adding a diminutive but explosive wide receiver to the weapons already surrounding ascendant quarterback Kyler Murray. Moore's size has generated doubters throughout his football career, but as NFL.com suggests, his 4.3 speed and open-field moves thoroughly negated that disadvantage at the college level. NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein compares Moore to Seattle Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett, and believes Moore can win an NFL role as a return man, as well. Injuries and early draft entry limited his college career to just 20 games, but even so Moore established himself as Purdue's best player, and as one of the most explosive players in the Big Ten Conference. As a freshman, he led the nation with 114 catches and scored 12 touchdowns while adding 213 rushing yards on 21 attempts. Also the primary return man for Purdue that year, Moore was ultimately named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and became the first freshman winner of the Paul Hornung Award given to the nation's most versatile player. There's play-making ability here if Cardinals coaches and Murray can successfully find ways to tap into it.
