Kenneth Gainwell 2022 Outlook
The Eagles ran for the most yards of any team in the NFL on their way to a playoff berth last season, and four running backs had a hand in helping them put up 2,715 yards. Gainwell was fourth among those backs in carries as a rookie, but he added 33 catches to his 68 carries and finished the season with 544 yards from scrimmage. Gainwell also scored six times, and he said recently that he plans on even bigger things during his second season with the NFC East team. "I'm trying to go into Year 2 and go crazy," Gainwell told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "Year 1 was good for me. But I feel like Coach Sirianni, he knows what he got out of me. I'm coming back and I'm going to go off." As Profootballtalk.com notes, Miles Sanders is also aiming for bigger things during the 2021 season and seeing both backs make good on those plans would position the Eagles for another successful season on the ground. If they can make some gains through the air as well, it would make life difficult on defenses throughout the season. Still, it should be noted that Gainwell needs to move up in the pecking order. The fact he worked behind both Boston Scott and Jordan Howard last season tells you how much work he has to do to become a more realistic fantasy option.
Kenneth Gainwell 2021 Outlook
As NBCSports.com reported, the Eagles used their fifth-round pick on an exciting addition for Nick Sirianni's offense, drafting Gainwell out of Memphis with pick No. 150. He should be a perfect fit for the Eagles' new scheme and a great complement for Miles Sanders. ... While Gainwell opted out of the 2020 season, he had a tremendous year in 2019, rushing for 1,459 yards with 13 touchdowns. But perhaps just as importantly, Gainwell caught 51 passes for 610 yards and three touchdowns. We already know that Sirianni likes to use his running backs as receiving threats, and Gainwell has the potential to fill a similar role to the one Nyheim Hines has filled in Indianapolis for the last few years. Gainwell could end up being an explosive player in the NFL. With just one full season as a starter at the collegiate level, Gainwell also doesn't have a lot of wear. He had just 235 total carries at Memphis. Of some concern, it's a crowded field beyond Gainwell and Sanders with Boston Scott, Kerryon Johnson, Jordan Howard, Jason Huntley and former undrafted free agents Elijah Holyfield and Adrian Killins Jr. all on board as well. Still, Sanders and Gainwell serving as the Top 2 here is the most likely outcome.
