Zach Wilson 2023 Outlook
Two years ago, the Jets selected Wilson with the No. 2 overall pick of that year's draft. Now Wilson is officially set to be replaced by Aaron Rodgers, with New York acquiring the veteran superstar via trade in April. But general manager Joe Douglas said that Rodgers being in the building should actually be a positive development for the team's top pick in 2021. "I feel like this is going to be a great thing for Zach," Douglas said. "And I spoke to you guys at the Combine and Zach's ceiling is unlimited." Safe to say, however, Wilson isn't going to hit that ceiling as long as Rodgers is healthy and starting. Wilson has been through a tumultuous two seasons with New York, compiling an 8-14 record as a starter. He's completed 55.2 percent of his passes for 4,022 yards with 15 touchdowns and 18 interceptions. In 2022, Wilson had a 54.5 percent completion rate for 1,688 yards with six touchdowns and seven picks. So a reset is needed. A season -- or more — spent watching and learning from Rodgers could provide it.

Zach Wilson 2022 Outlook
Wilson's rookie season was a largely rocky one. Wilson, the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, started in 13 games with four missed starts due to a knee injury. According to NFL.com's Gregg Rosenthal, in nearly half of his starts, Wilson was a primary reason his team wasn't competitive. He improved down the stretch, but most of that improvement came down to one terrific game against the Bucs. He did not throw with consistent confidence, even though his arm is outrageous, and finishing the season with a 7-for-20 performance against the Bills left a sour aftertaste. At rookie year's end, Wilson was 3-10 as a starter with nine touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 2,234 yards passing and a 55.6 completion percentage. On the plus side, Wilson played smarter down the stretch and didn't throw a pick in his final five games, showing a better willingness to check down to the open receiver instead of forcing a tough pass. Wilson entered the NFL with raw talent. That wasn't tamed in Year 1. It's a huge offseason for Wilson, who must prove he can read defenses better and make the right play in his second season operating coordinator Mike LaFleur's offense. The Jets are intent on improving the weapons around him as well (investing in skill players early in April's draft and through free agency). That said, Wilson remains nothing more than a late-round flier for fantasy managers heading into this season.

Zach Wilson 2021 Outlook
With the trade of Sam Darnold clearing the runway, Wilson, the second pick overall in April's NFL Draft, landed in New York, where he'll take over as the captain of these new Jets. And, after failing to do this for Darnold, the Jets have been making a concerted effort to rebuild their supporting cast on offense. It started in free agency with the addition of wide receivers Corey Davis and Keelan Cole. In the draft, they added a Day 1 starter at left guard in Alijah Vera-Tucker and two potential playmakers, wide receiver Elijah Moore and running back Michael Carter. They're also installing a quarterback-friendly system -- the Kyle Shanahan version of the West Coast offense. As ESPN.com notes, Wilson ran some of the same concepts at BYU, which should help the transition. Given all that, Wilson's strengths shine across multiple departments. He's remarkably accurate, throwing into tight windows at multiple levels all over the field throughout the course of his final season with the Cougars. He's as impressive when on the move, too, shining in his off-platform throws in a way Darnold never displayed. He'll need that poise and moxie, along with the rest of his physical talents, to become fantasy viable. Expect that process to take some time.
