Gabe Davis 2023 Outlook
The Buffalo Bills’ climb toward the top of the AFC has come despite typically lacking a strong No. 2 wide receiver option. Davis hopes to fill that void in 2023 while securing stability with the franchise entering the final season of his entry contract. The organization has faith in him. “This will be Gabe’s second year going in as a full-time starter,” general manager Brandon Beane said. “He’s naturally going to be better.” While Davis made 15 starts in 2022, he dealt with various health issues along the way. He started the season well, making four catches for 88 yards and a score, and delivered a breakthrough performance in a rout of Pittsburgh in Week 3, catching three passes for 171 yards and a score. After that, however, his best receiving yardage was 93; Davis also had a game in which he caught two of seven targets for 15 yards. The Bills have been a consistent winner lately. Can Davis help keep that going by being a solid standout behind Diggs?
Gabe Davis 2022 Outlook
It's safe to say Davis, working primarily as a situational player, was flying well under the radar before his 201-yard, four-touchdown game in the playoffs against the Chiefs. But Bills GM Brandon Beane says no one in Buffalo was surprised to see Davis' hard work pay off on a big stage. Beane, who drafted Davis in the fourth round in 2020, says Davis' hard work for the Bills stems to the very first day he joined the team, when Davis celebrated getting drafted not with a party but with a workout with his personal trainer. And Beane said that after that big game Davis had to end the Bills' postseason, it's been nothing but hard work this offseason. "Gabriel, he's a stud, and I mean that in all senses," Beane said. "His habits, he is serious about football. I mean, he's got that look, the eye of the tiger. I'll go to war with Gabe Davis any day of the week." While that playoff game put him on the map, he was heading that way down the stretch, hitting double-digit fantasy points in four of the team's last eight games. With Emmanuel Sanders and Cole Beasley no longer in the mix, the still-unproven Davis is primed for a much larger role in Buffalo's high-powered offense this season.
Gabe Davis 2021 Outlook
Davis was one of the top rookie receivers in the NFL this past season. His seven scoring grabs left him just one touchdown behind teammate Stephon Diggs, who led the NFL in receptions with 127. Davis performed well, but at times was inconsistent. He undoubtedly played his best along the sideline, grabbing several impressive catches by toe-tapping the turf. At the end of the season, GM Brandon Beane didn’t jump at the chance to name Davis as the team’s No. 2 wideout, but he certainly sounded confident in the youngster, saying “I don’t want to put that on him but I don’t think Gabe is near his ceiling.” Davis was mentored by Cole Beasley, John Brown, Isaiah McKenzie and Diggs, who created an incredible experience for Davis in the Bills receivers' room. With the release of Brown (who went on to sign with the Raiders), the Bills will likely place more trust in Davis this season. Davis can't replace Brown's speed, and he still has to step up in other ways. Remember: Beyond Davis, Diggs, Beasley, McKenzie and newcomer Emmanuel Sanders, the depth chart in Buffalo also includes Isaiah Hodgins, Duke Williams, Tanner Gentry, Jake Kumerow, Tre Walker, Brandon Powell and Marquez Stevenson.
