Zack Moss 2021 Outlook
As SBNation.com reminded readers, after the 2019 running back combo of Devin Singletary and Frank Gore didn't go as well as hoped, the Bills drafted Moss in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft. The new combo of Singletary and Moss also did not go as well as hoped. Still, heading into 2021 the Bills opted not to add to their backfield at the draft. Clearly that bodes well for Moss, and some view him as a rising fantasy prospect. Pro Football Focus pointed out that not only did the Bills pass on some talented backs, Buffalo spent considerable capital on improving in the trenches. This included an offensive lineman to finish Day 2 and another to start Day 3. PFF went on to contend Moss should see over 50 percent of the rushing snaps, along with over 50 percent of red zone snaps. While this seems reasonable, it's also worth noting Moss started to out snap Singletary before his ankle injury in the postseason. That said, baseline expectations are that the Bills will likely run with the hot hand once things get going this season.
Zack Moss 2020 Outlook
If college production matters, please note what Moss, selected 86th overall by the Bills, did as a sophomore, leading the Utes in rushing with almost 1,200 yards (1,173) with 10 touchdowns and a 5.5 yards per carry average. A knee injury held him to just under 1,100 yards rushing as a junior before Moss put the offense on his back as a senior when he earned PAC-12 Offensive Player of the Year honors with a 1,400-yard rushing campaign and 17 total touchdowns. The question now is can he carry that kind of impact into the early stages of his NFL career? Most NFL analysts see a prime opportunity for Moss to get playing time as a rookie. With Frank Gore no longer on the roster to serve as that physical between-the-tackles back to complement Devin Singletary, many see Moss filling that role. Even so, he’ll have to earn it over the other competition in Buffalo, T.J. Yeldon chief among them. Besides a pro body, there's an important reason Utah RBs coach Kiel McDonald feels Moss' game will capably translate to the pro game. "Zack is a five-tool running back. He can run around you, run you over, make you miss. He can catch the football. He can pass block. There's nothing he can't do." Given all that, Moss seems likely to cut into Singletary's workload to some degree.
