Brandon Aiyuk 2023 Outlook
Aiyuk recorded the first 1,000-yard season of his career last year, and there will surely be more to come. It's possible he could take a major step forward in terms of establishing that he'll be a regular at posting 1,000-yard campaigns. He also set career highs for receptions and touchdown catches in the best of his three seasons. He caught 47 passes for first downs, a solid sign of reliability in a season in which San Francisco was hit hard with quarterback injuries while going from Trey Lance to Jimmy Garoppolo to Brock Purdy. Aiyuk has caught at least five touchdown passes in each season of his career as well as topping 700 yards each time. The QB situation will have challenges as Brock Purdy's recovery from elbow surgery will determine how things shake out. Lance and Sam Darnold are other options. Aiyuk has four career 100-yard outings, but only one came last season. He had nine receptions in that same game to fall one short of his career high. Aiyuk caught two touchdown passes in games against the Atlanta Falcons and Arizona Cardinals.
Brandon Aiyuk 2022 Outlook
Aiyuk got off to a slow start at the beginning of the 2021 season after impressing his rookie year the season before. While it was reported he found his way into head coach Kyle Shanahan's doghouse last summer, Deebo Samuel emerging as a high-end contributor clearly capped Aiyuk's ceiling. Fansided.com's Peter Panacy contends, however, there are reasons to suspect Aiyuk finally lives up to his first-round reputation entering 2022. Not the least of which, Jimmy Garoppolo's game is vastly different than that of Aiyuk's new quarterback, Trey Lance, who'll assume starting duties in 2022. Lance's second start of his career (Week 17 against the Texans) was one of Aiyuk's better games, one in which he posted four catches on six targets for 94 yards and averaged 23.5 yards per reception. Panacy added: "Aiyuk is a receiver that thrives by winning on isolated routes outside of the numbers. That wasn't Garoppolo's game." Simply put, Lance can take much better advantage of Aiyuk's abilities than Garoppolo ever could. All that said, Aiyuk might never catch Samuel as long as the two are rostered together. But if Lance is able to take advantage of Aiyuk's strengths more effectively this upcoming season, at least the 49ers would have their prolific one-two punch at the position. If Samuel's issues with the club aren't resolved prior to the start of the season, Aiyuk stands to benefit even more.v
Brandon Aiyuk 2021 Outlook
As a rookie, Aiyuk came close to breaking Jerry Rice's team-record mark of 927 receiving yards set during the Hall of Famer’s rookie season back in 1985. Aiyuk fell a little short but, as Fansided.com pointed out, Aiyuk did so while appearing in just 12 games. Given that, it's not hard to see why the former ASU standout is viewed as a superstar in the making. If nothing else, Aiyuk hasn’t yet approached his fantasy ceiling. Amid an unprecedented 2020 campaign, the No. 25 overall pick from last year's NFL Draft already showed the prowess to be used as a multifaceted weapon in head coach Kyle Shanahan's offense scoring seven TDs (five receiving and two rushing). As SI.com noted, Aiyuk finished the season ranked 35th among wide receivers in fantasy points, but he only averaged eight targets and five catches a game. In Weeks 7-15, Aiyuk played six games and averaged over 20 fantasy points (third-best behind Tyreek Hill and Davante Adams) and also led all wideouts in average targets per contest (11.5). Expecting him to do more with improved QB play this year seems all but certain.
