Justin Jefferson 2023 Outlook
With Cooper Kupp coming off an injury, Jefferson is the safest No. 1 pick on the board in 2023. A purple PPR god with 324 grabs in his first 50 games, Jefferson demolished the NFL record for most receiving yards through three seasons with 4,825 -- a staggering 662 more than runner-up Randy Moss. Moss got Moss'd! Jefferson led the NFL in catches, receiving yards and receiving yards per game in 2022. The NFL Offensive Player of the Year posted 10 games with 100-plus yards (including 154, 184, 193 and 223) and six contests with double-digit catches. He scored "only" eight touchdowns, a total that should soar with QB Kirk Cousins playing for a new contract and red-zone weapon Adam Thielen now in Carolina. "As crazy as this sounds. … I think he and I have just scratched the surface," head coach Kevin O'Connell said. The Vikings also drafted a first-round running mate in WR Jordan Addison, the '21 Biletnikoff Award winner who can help to keep defenses honest.
Justin Jefferson 2022 Outlook
It didn't take long for new head coach Kevin O'Connell to win over key members of the locker room. "Just for him to come in and be a laid-back coach ready to change the whole program and get us back on that winning stage," Jefferson said shortly after the team's initial workouts with the new boss. "We're all excited. We've seen so many new faces in here, so many new coaches. ... We have so much potential on this team. We're all ready to get this thing started back up. ..." Playing in a similar offense to one that saw Cooper Kupp win the receiving Triple Crown last season has Jefferson excited for what could be in store in 2022. "Seeing what Cooper Kupp did last year, him getting close to the (receiving yards) record, him being so open so many times," Jefferson said. "There's a lot of things on film that I watched and looked at and I'm excited about this year. Even being in the meetings with him and him talking over schemes and different things he did with the Rams and things he's planning on doing with us, it's very exciting. I'm definitely excited to start the season -- right now. ..." Fantasy managers should have the same view of this as Jefferson. They should also be ready to invest first-round draft capital to secure Jefferson's services.
Justin Jefferson 2021 Outlook
As Bleacher Report framed it: "Two years ago at LSU, he was ridiculously productive, hauling in 111 catches for 1,540 yards and 18 touchdowns. Jefferson barely missed a beat in the pros. ..." Indeed, he did more than just soften the blow of Stefon Diggs' departure. By the end of the year, Jefferson had surpassed Adam Thielen as Minnesota's No. 1 wideout. Jefferson scored an impressive 270 fantasy points as a rookie. According to SI.com's Michael Fabiano, that was good enough to finish fourth-best among rookie receivers in the Super Bowl era (1966-present), behind Randy Moss (1998, 304.7 points), Odell Beckham Jr. (2014, 295) and Anquan Boldin (2003, 295). Jefferson's 1,400 receiving yards are the most in a single season by a rookie wideout in NFL history, breaking the previous record of 1,377 yards, set by Boldin during his rookie season in Arizona (2003). The end result? Jefferson was the seventh-best fantasy receiver during the season, averaging close to 17 fantasy points on nearly eight targets per game. Remember, however, Jefferson saw a mere six targets in his first two games and scored a combined 11 points. From Week 3 to Week 17, he averaged 18.5 points and was the fourth-best fantasy wideout in the entire league.
