CeeDee Lamb 2023 Outlook
Just 24 entering his fourth season in Big D, Lamb continues to make the Cowboys' classic 88 jersey look good. Chasing numbers posted by his predecessors with those digits (Drew Pearson, Michael Irvin and Dez Bryant), Lamb hauled in 107 catches, set a career high with nine touchdowns and hit the century mark five times in the last nine games. Too many low-production weeks kept him from ranking higher on this list, plus he figures to see fewer targets (156) with the arrival of six-time 1,000-yard WR Brandin Cooks and a 100-percent healthy Michael Gallup. But Lamb should also see less attention with a consistent No. 2 option alongside. Dallas also has a new offensive coordinator in Brian Schottenheimer, a coaching analyst for Dallas last season. "We wanna play physical, fast and to make everyone cover the entire field," said Schottenheimer, previously an OC with the Seahawks, Rams and Jets. "… I want us to be able to play fast." Lamb can certainly do fast, and his chemistry with QB Dak Prescott could lead to a third straight Pro Bowl campaign in '23.
CeeDee Lamb 2022 Outlook
With Amari Cooper traded to Cleveland, the Dallas Morning News contends that Lamb has to become quarterback Dak Prescott's go-to guy the way Drew Pearson was for Roger Staubach, the way Michael Irvin was for Troy Aikman and the way Dez Bryant was for Tony Romo. "He's a playmaker, and when you're very skillful and you have great awareness it's easy to get on the same page," Prescott said of Lamb during last season. "That's credit to him of just being a young player and communicating through everything, us talking, whether it's option routes or whether it's whatever it is." In his first two seasons, Lamb has 153 receptions for 2,037 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2021 as an injury replacement after putting up 79 receptions for 1,102 yards and six touchdowns. The Cowboys never thought they were going to be able to draft Lamb in 2020. They figured he would be long gone before they picked at No. 17 and could not pass on a player they had slotted among the top 10 players on their draft board. Lamb has had some electric moments in his first two seasons. But there have been too many moments where Lamb has not been a factor and that needs to change. The Cowboys believe it will, and fantasy managers will have to invest significant draft capital if they believe it too.
CeeDee Lamb 2021 Outlook
As USA Today noted, Lamb had a spectacular rookie campaign in 2020, highlighted by many acrobatic catches on the turf. He displayed his elite catch radius and consistently produced, despite a makeshift offensive line and a revolving door at quarterback following Dak Prescott's season-ending injury. Lamb became one of only 19 receivers to accumulate 1000-plus yards from scrimmage in a rookie season since 1990. Yes, Amari Cooper and Michael Gallup remain on hand at receiver, so Lamb will have plenty of competition for passes. But the assumption is that Prescott will be the one throwing all of them this time around, and the offense should be a better version of itself if that's the case. Indeed, Lamb should continue to be viewed as a player on the rise. According to SI.com, Lamb averaged almost 17 fantasy points in his first five games, all with Prescott as the Cowboys' starting quarterback. Based on that total, Lamb was on pace to finish with 260-plus fantasy points in 16 games. That would have put him within range of Justin Jefferson, and it's certainly enough to lock him in as a low-end WR2 or high end WR3 with upside as a fantasy prospect this season.
