Jerry Jeudy 2023 Outlook
The Denver offense was a mess in Russell Wilson's first season as the quarterback so things can't get worse. Factor in the hiring as offensive guru Sean Payton as coach and Jeudy could take a major step upward. Even with the Broncos finding it hard to move the ball, Jeudy fell just short of a 1,000-yard season. With the offensive changes, and the expectation that Wilson will play much better, it seems probable that Jeudy can reach that milestone as long as he stays healthy. He only has nine touchdown receptions in 41 NFL games but a possible breakout campaign might see him catch that many in 2023 alone. In fact, he caught three of those scoring passes against the Chiefs last December. Not to be forgotten is Payton's offense will have new wrinkles that AFC West defensive coordinators haven't seen during Jeudy's career. Jeudy had three 100-yard outings last season -- one came in the season opener and the other two during the final three weeks. Jeudy caught seven or more passes -- with a high of eight -- on four occasions.
Jerry Jeudy 2022 Outlook
When the Broncos traded for quarterback Russell Wilson, they figured he would have a positive effect on the club's young receiving corps. According to Jeudy, that's already started to happen. The 15th overall pick of the 2020 draft told reporters in May that he feels like Wilson can help him a lot. "He's a great quarterback, Hall of Fame quarterback that came into the offense as a leader and [is] getting me better as well," Jeudy said in a press conference. "So he's going to help me a lot this year." Jeudy added that it's not just Wilson's throwing ability, but also his leadership in the building that has made a positive impact during the off-season program. "Just his energy - always uplifting guys, always motivating guys to go out there and just keep working hard," Jeudy said. "Even on those off days, you don't feel like working or doing anything, he's the guy that comes up there and gets your mind right for it. So that's a great guy to be around. ..." Jeudy had a solid rookie year, catching 52 passes for 856 yards with three touchdowns. But he only played 10 games last year due to injury, catching 38 passes for 467 yards. He didn't score a touchdown in 2021. With Wilson now throwing him passes instead of Drew Lock or Teddy Bridgewater, Jeudy should be in a position to have a strong 2022.
Jerry Jeudy 2021 Outlook
When the Broncos snagged Jeudy with the No. 15 overall pick in 2020, many felt they landed the top receiver in a historically rich draft. The Alabama product entered the NFL as a stellar route runner with ideal size and athleticism, however the outsized predictions didn't come to fruition. While Jeudy saw 110 targets, second-most in his class, his 47.3 percent catch rate put him dead last among the 14 rookies with at least 40 targets, per Pro Football Focus. Drops were particularly a problem for Jeudy, who finished with the second-most recorded drops by a WR in 2020 (12), per PFF, behind only Diontae Johnson (14) of Pittsburgh. "What I took away is that you just have to take advantage of your opportunities," Jeudy said. When compared to the rest of the historic class, however, the Broncos' wideout didn't finish at the top. He landed fifth in yards, behind Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, Tee Higgins and Chase Claypool. On the plus side, the young receiver closed the season on a high note, thrashing the Las Vegas Raiders for a season-high 140 yards on five catches with a TD. With Courtland Sutton returning and Jeudy, K.J. Hamler and Noah Fant having another year of seasoning, the Broncos' offense could be dangerous in 2021 -- QB willing.
