Joe Burrow 2023 Outlook
Burrow enters 2023 with at least one touchdown pass in his last 23 regular season games, including 14 games with multiple TD strikes (four games with four and four games with three). In two-plus seasons as the Cincinnati starter, he has hit the 300-yard mark 16 times and topped 400 on five occasions with a high of 525. The only QBs in NFL history with more 300-yard/3-TD games than Burrow (nine) through three seasons are Dan Marino (12) and Patrick Mahomes (11). Imagine what he can do when he's not running for his life, as Burrow was sacked more times (92) than any other QB from 2021-22. The Bengals finally decided to protect "Joey Franchise" by signing four-time Pro Bowl LT Orlando Brown to defend his blind side. The 6-8, 363-pound Brown spent the past two seasons blocking for the Chiefs' Mahomes and should help push No. 9 to that same MVP level. "I'm feeling really good. I feel strong. I feel stable. I feel grounded," Burrow said.
Joe Burrow 2022 Outlook
Burrow had to rehab before he could walk, and walk before he could make his unexpected run to Super Bowl LVI. That run included another achievement: 2021 AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year. Burrow's tale -- taking a team that had won just four games a year ago all the way to its third Super Bowl appearance in franchise history -- is remarkable for a second-year quarterback. It's even more impressive when considering he had to undergo knee surgery to repair a significant injury suffered as a rookie, rehabilitate, overcome the mental hurdles of returning to a high-speed contact sport, and then proceeded to light up the NFL in the final portion of the regular season. Burrow's second professional season has him on the doorstep of the elite class of NFL quarterbacks. He finished sixth in passing yards in the regular season, posted a 34-14 touchdown-to-interception ratio and the second-best passer rating in the entire NFL at 108.3, trailing only Aaron Rodgers. Burrow stuffed the stat sheet in the latter portion of the season, throwing for 440-plus yards in two of his final five games and breaking 500 yards in a win over Baltimore to complete the Bengals' season sweep of the Ravens. While the Bengals need to bolster their offensive line, there's plenty of young talent to keep Burrow firmly locked in the Top 10.
Joe Burrow 2021 Outlook
In 10 starts as a rookie, Burrow completed 65.3 percent of his passes for 2,688 yards and 13 touchdowns with just five interceptions. He also rushed for 142 yards and three TDs. Then on Nov. 22 he tore his ACL and MCL and underwent reconstructive surgery on Dec. 2. The usual timetable for recoveries from these injuries put him in line to be ready for the 2021 season opener and, so far, all indications suggest that remains a realistic target here as well after Burrow was able to work on a limited basis in OTAs and minicamp sessions. When Burrow, who was sacked 32 times and faced pressure on 146 of his 453 drop backs, does return, better protecting the player they view as their QB of the future will obviously be the Bengals' priority. That said, nobody in the fantasy football world is going to complain about Cincinnati drafting Burrow's former teammate, Ja'Marr Chase, in the first round of April's draft. Adding the super-talented Chase to an already strong receiving corps is a bonus here. ... Beyond that, besides rehabbing the surgically-repaired knee, Burrow wants to increase his overall strength. "Staying lean is big so I can stay mobile," Burrow said. "Getting stronger is more the goal than gaining weight." Burrow hopes his time spent in the weight room will increase his arm strength in Year 2.
