Benny Snell 2020 Outlook
The Steelers are banking on James Conner bouncing back after an injury-plagued 2019 season, but they also have high hopes for another member of the backfield. The topic of 2019 fourth-round pick Snell came up recently and HC Mike Tomlin was quick to praise him. "I'm excited about Year Two," Tomlin said, via SteelersDepot.com. "You know how it is, you've been a lap around the track, you kind of know how the ground is laid. He had some contributions to us a year ago and it's reasonable to expect him to just continue to take off and be a big-time guy for us." Conner only had 116 carries last season, so returning to his lead back role at full health would leave less work for other backs. Assuming Snell makes good on Tomlin's projection, he should be in line for a lot of the leftovers. Remember, in both of his starts -- coming against Cincinnati and Baltimore -- Snell had at least 90 rushing yards, and he scored a touchdown in the Week 17 finale against the Ravens. Most of the time, though, Snell's ability as a bruising, downhill runner got him on the field late in games as the team’s closer. There may be some value to be had in that role, but Snell needs to improve his pass protection if he wants to be an every-down back and someone fantasy players can opt for during the Bye weeks.
