Drew Lock 2022 Outlook
As we head into the summer, Lock is the top quarterback on the Seahawks' roster; that doesn't mean he'll be the QB1 when the regular season starts in September. Lock, who came to Seattle as part of the Russell Wilson trade, is well aware of that. But in his introductory press conference, Lock said he's looking forward to his fresh start. Lock said he feels that the Seahawks will be able to construct an offense that maximizes his skill set. But he's also received no assurances about his role. "Nothing has been promised -- as I would want," Lock said. "I'd want them to come in here and tell me I need to earn it, tell me to come in and work, tell me I need to come in and compete. It's just my job to come in and work extremely hard and compete for that starting job." Seattle was thought to be a possible landing spot for a quarterback, rookie or otherwise, during the 2022 NFL Draft. But the Seahawks spent the weekend standing pat at the position, opting not to select a signal-caller with any of their nine picks in the draft or acquire a veteran QB, like, say, Baker Mayfield, via trade, Seattle will move forward with Lock and Geno Smith expected to battle it out this summer for the Week 1 starting gig.
Drew Lock 2021 Outlook
It's been an important offseason for Lock -- and that will continue throughout the summer as the Broncos prepare for a quarterback competition. HC Vic Fangio said he'll give incumbent starter Lock and new arrival Teddy Bridgewater equal time with the first-team offense in Organized Team Activities and training camp, with both of them having a chance to earn the starting job. "It will be something that at the end of the day, maybe not at the end of every day but over the course of OTAs and training camp, it'll be 50-50," Fangio said. ... It's fair to say Lock owns the arm talent to be an NFL starting quarterback, but he struggled far too much last season with poor decision-making and forcing off-platform throws. How the competition unfolds in the coming weeks will tell us unequivocally how new GM George Paton, who passed on high-end QBs in his first draft with the team, feels about Lock's long-term future in Denver. With a strong supporting cast boasting a returning Courtland Sutton joining Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler at wideout, a talented and athletic tight end Noah Fant and high-end rookie running back Javonte Williams teaming up with veteran Melvin Gordon in the backfield, whoever starts here will have plenty to work with.
