Dallas Goedert 2022 Outlook
According to FantasyPros' Joe Pepe, Goedert joins the list of must-have tight ends, even with A.J. Brown entering Philadelphia. ... This afternoon Goedert had career highs in yards (830), yards per reception (14.8) and yards per game (55.3) last season. Pepe went on to contend with another year of Jalen Hurts as a pro quarterback, with weapons galore to spread the defense and help the Eagles' offense run smoothly, we could see a positive bump in Goedert's reception totals and TDs this season. Some may see three options for Hurts and wonder how each player reaches a target share that we covet for fantasy. However, looking at Goedert, Pepe believes we should see the coverage shift to the outside receivers, allowing him to roam the middle of the field with more space than he has ever had before. This change in coverage makes him more enticing for our fantasy lineups. SI.com's Matt De Lima, however, Hurts' rushing ability limits Goedert's red-zone value. Still, with the Eagles upgrading their offense, it's no reach to project more overall production for this offense and for Goedert to be part of it. If so, Pepe believes this could bring Goedert from his 2021 finish of eighth overall tight end to a top-five play for the season.
Dallas Goedert 2021 Outlook
With the expectation that he'll take over as the Eagles' legit No. 1 tight end once Zach Ertz moves on, Goedert could be in line for a breakout season. A solid contributor over the past three seasons, Goedert has 137 receptions, 1,465 yards receiving, and 12 touchdowns in 42 career games. As USA Today notes, even though Goedert hasn't been an elite tight end and he's not a playmaker on the level of Travis Kelce or George Kittle, he should still be high on your fantasy radar. According to ESPN's Mike Clay, Goedert played at least 80 percent of the Eagles' snaps in nine games last season. He handled a 19 percent target share (6.8 per game) those weeks and a 42-catch, 479-yard, 3-TD receiving line was enough for the third-most fantasy points at the position. While it's encouraging that Ertz was absent for four of those games, Clay reminded readers that Richard Rodgers was a factor in his place (9-161-2 on 13 targets). With questions surrounding Ertz's future with the club, Goedert appears to be positioned as an every-down player in a TE-friendly scheme that isn't especially deep at wide receiver. Given the dearth of mid-range talent at this position, fantasy managers should view Goedert as a solid TE1 target.
Dallas Goedert 2020 Outlook
In just two seasons, Goedert has established himself as one of the league's better all-around tight ends. As the Philadelphia Inquirer notes, he has quickly developed into a dominant in-line blocker, which frees up Zach Ertz to line up outside or in the slot more. Pro Football Focus gave Goedert the second-best run-blocking grade in the league among tight ends last year (79.9). But Goedert also is an outstanding pass-catcher, as he proved in Week 15 against Washington with a memorable one-handed grab for a 20-yard gain on the Eagles' game-winning touchdown drive. The South Dakota State product had 58 receptions for 607 yards and five touchdowns last year, up from 33-334-4 the year before. He averaged an impressive 6.1 yards and became one of the Eagles' most dangerous screen weapons. He was targeted 19 times by Carson Wentz on third down last season and had 10 catches, all for first downs. He also had eight catches and four TDs in the red zone. As Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport noted, on 20 other teams, Goedert would be the No. 1 tight end. And if he got the snaps and targets workload that go with it, he might well be one of the best in the NFL. But for now, even with a lower ceiling than we'd like to see, Goedert remains a lower-tier starting fantasy tight end for 2020.
