Dallas Goedert 2020 Outlook
In just two seasons, Goedert has established himself as one of the league's better all-around tight ends. As the Philadelphia Inquirer notes, he has quickly developed into a dominant in-line blocker, which frees up Zach Ertz to line up outside or in the slot more. Pro Football Focus gave Goedert the second-best run-blocking grade in the league among tight ends last year (79.9). But Goedert also is an outstanding pass-catcher, as he proved in Week 15 against Washington with a memorable one-handed grab for a 20-yard gain on the Eagles' game-winning touchdown drive. The South Dakota State product had 58 receptions for 607 yards and five touchdowns last year, up from 33-334-4 the year before. He averaged an impressive 6.1 yards and became one of the Eagles' most dangerous screen weapons. He was targeted 19 times by Carson Wentz on third down last season and had 10 catches, all for first downs. He also had eight catches and four TDs in the red zone. As Bleacher Report's Gary Davenport noted, on 20 other teams, Goedert would be the No. 1 tight end. And if he got the snaps and targets workload that go with it, he might well be one of the best in the NFL. But for now, even with a lower ceiling than we'd like to see, Goedert remains a lower-tier starting fantasy tight end for 2020.
Dallas Goedert 2019 Outlook
Zach Ertz played his first full 16-game season as a pro while on his way to setting records. Goedert did the same -- without the records -- but did flash plenty of promise. As NJ.com's Zack Rosenblatt suggested, as a rookie Goedert showed quickly that he was ready to contribute, even if it took the Eagles a little too long to feature him. Goedert had three games with at least five targets, and he scored at least 14 PPR points in each of those outings. But there are obvious issues for fantasy owners. In addition to Ertz, Goedert will have to battle Alshon Jeffery, DeSean Jackson, Nelson Agholor and perhaps rookie J.J. Arcega-Whiteside (in addition to the team's running backs), for targets. But as CBSSports.com put it, "Goedert might be the best No. 2 tight end in the NFL, and all he needs is additional targets to be successful." So, while fantasy owners shouldn't consider him a front-line player, his odds of playing a greater role in Doug Pederson's TE-heavy offense (which rolls with three of them at times), are good. And that makes him worth watching in deeper leagues or for those playing the streaming game throughout the season.
Dallas Goedert 2018 Outlook
The Eagles traded out of the first round of April's draft but still landed one of the draft's top two tight ends -- Goedert of South Dakota State -- in the second round. The Super Bowl champions didn't come into the draft with a lot of pressing needs, but Goedert is a potential replacement for backup Trey Burton who signed with the Chicago Bears in free agency. Goedert led all Division I tight ends in receptions and receiving yards over the last two years. He has soft hands and a quick release off the line and Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said he is excited about the ways that he can utilize the 6-5, 256-pound Goedert. "He's got some refining to do," Pederson said. "We move our (tight ends) around a lot. He's going to be a good fit for us, a good fit for the (tight-end) room. Zach's going to be a great mentor to him." Adding Goedert to work across from Ertz is going to cause major matchup problems for defenses in two-tight end sets. But still, it's hard to imagine the newcomer being fantasy relevant in redraft leagues this season.
