Anthony Miller 2020 Outlook
Miller is recovering from his second shoulder surgery in as many offseasons, so he knows the drill. And as he works his way back to health, he hopes that he'll be able to make a big step this season. "I feel like this is going to be my best year yet," he recently said. Miller, who is expected to be ready for training camp, was hurt while returning a kick in a meaningless Week 17 game, calling it a "freak accident." So is there upside to be had here? Well, with Taylor Gabriel out due to concussion late in the year, Miller had a five-game stretch in which he had 33 catches for 431 yards and two touchdowns. But the Bears want to see more consistency before he plays a bigger role behind top receiver Allen Robinson. Of course, there are limiting factors beyond health. Per NextGen Stats, Bears wideouts averaged only 3.3 yards after the catch per reception in 2019 (second to last). Among the reasons for that was the fact that 23.6 percent of the Bears' passes were thrown behind the line of scrimmage (eighth most in the NFL). As NFL.com's Cynthia Frelund notes, that suggests the level of pass-catching talent in Chicago is of less concern than the quality of quarterback play.
