Christian Kirk 2023 Outlook
Kirk excelled in his first season with the Jaguars and set career highs in receptions, receiving yardage and scoring catches. It certainly helps to have Trevor Lawrence as your quarterback so Kirk certainly could build on his numbers next season. Lawrence may make strides toward joining the list of upper-echelon AFC quarterbacks this season. If so, Kirk's numbers are going to rise again. Kirk had a season-high 117 yards in his Jacksonville debut and had two other 100-yard outings later in the season. Kirk had eight receptions and a season-high nine in back-to-back contests in midseason but later had just five catches (for 43 yards) in a late two-game span. He also had two two-touchdown games -- one against the Indianapolis Colts and the other against the Kansas City Chiefs. Kirk spent his first four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals and never caught more than six scoring passes in a season. He made solid progress in his fourth and final season with Arizona and continued his upward climb last season. Despite playing with Kyler Murray, Kirk had just four 100-yard outings with the Cardinals.
Christian Kirk 2022 Outlook
Spend, spend, spend! As Profootballtalk.com put it, "Jacksonville continues to try to buy its way out of dysfunction. ..." The Jaguars started racking up their tab by agreeing to terms with Kirk on a four-year contract worth up to $84 million. Based on that contract, Kirk will be asked to play a major role as the Jaguars try to build a better offense around quarterback Trevor Lawrence in head coach Doug Pederson's first season with the team. Kirk averaged 640 receiving yards over his first three years in the NFL before breaking through in 2021 with 982 yards on 77 catches. Not only were these career highs, but he averaged more yards per game that more proven teammates DeAndre Hopkins and A.J. Green. It made him a key part of an offense that finished 10th in the NFL in passing yards and 11th in total points. Arizona faded down the stretch after a hot start, finishing 11-6 before suffering a first-round loss to the Rams. Kirk was still a key part of the success as a consistent option who topped 50 receiving yards in 11 of 18 games, including the playoffs. With a competent coaching staff, a talented-but-unproven QB and a WR1 paycheck, Kirk is a player who is positioned to outproduce your draft-day investment
Christian Kirk 2021 Outlook
The Cardinals added to their wide receiver room with their second-round pick in the draft, selecting Purdue's Rondale Moore. The 5-7, 180-pound speedster projects as a guy who will play primarily in the slot but who also has the explosiveness to play outside. According to USA Today, Moore would likely be the Cardinals' No. 4 receiver as things currently stand. In the short term, that seems like bad news for 2019 second-round pick Andy Isabella, who has the same sort of skill set. But assuming the Cardinals wanted him to take over for Larry Fitzgerald in the slot, Kirk's role could be in question as well. Remember, as Football Absurdity pointed out, Kirk seemed primed to break out and build on his 2019 campaign and then the Cardinals brought in DeAndre Hopkins, putting Kirk on the back burner. Now, combine the addition of Moore with the off-season signing of A.J. Green and it doesn't leave a ton of targets for Kirk to be a relevant fantasy option, especially after he saw a dip in targets from 2019 to 2020 from 108 to 79. It’s hard to imagine that target volume increasing without significant, unexpected developments to another piece of the receiving corps. While that's certainly possible, it's likely Kirk will be relegated to waiver-wire watch list status this season.
