John Ross 2021 Outlook
Ross has found his second NFL home after signing a one-year deal worth $2.5 million with the Giants. The deal includes $1 million in guaranteed money. ... The No. 9 overall pick in the 2017 draft, Ross never found his footing in Cincinnati. He dealt with various injuries over the last four years, playing in only 27 games, and his most productive season was in 2019, when he caught 28 passes for 506 yards -- averaging 18.1 yards per reception. In 2020, Ross played only three games, catching a pair of passes for 17 yards. The Bengals had already declined his fifth-year option for 2021 and Ross posted on social media in October, "It's no secret that I have requested a trade." Now Ross gets a fresh start with the Giants -- a team that also signed Kenny Golladay to join Darius Slayton and Sterling Shepard. With Evan Engram and Kyle Rudolph at tight end and Saquon Barkley returning to give Daniel Jones another play-making threat in the passing attack, assuming Ross can even stay healthy, he will still have to prove his speed is sufficient to carve out a meaningful role.
John Ross 2020 Outlook
The Bengals declined the fifth-year option on his contract this offseason so Ross, the ninth pick overall in 2017, now is contractually tied to Cincinnati only through 2020, not beyond. Ross has had an injury-prone first three seasons, playing in only 24 of a possible 48 games, making 49 catches for 716 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Bengals selected Tee Higgins in the second round this year and hope to see the healthy return of A.J. Green, who missed last season with an ankle injury. But in case we've forgotten, Ross started out last year with a bang. He had 22 receptions for 270 yards and three touchdowns in the first two games of the season, including an electric 158-yard, two-score performance in a close contest against Seattle in the season opener. Could playing for a deal mean we see more of that Ross? According to SBNation, Joe Burrow, an extraordinarily-improvisational player, leader, and overall accurate QB who can make every throw may very well bring out the best in Ross, who has a newfound dedication to his body and preventing injury. And Ross’ focus is clear when it comes to the 2020 season. "Sixteen games and more," he said. For fantasy managers, Ross is a late-round flier with some upside.
