Hunter Henry 2020 Outlook
The Chargers will have a new quarterback in 2020 after Philip Rivers’ offseason departure to Indianapolis. Rivers started all 235 games for the team since 2006 so the upcoming season will certainly be one of transition. Keeping a degree of continuity was a priority, so the team used the franchise tag on Henry in March. By doing so they have armed that new quarterback with a tight end known for his abilities as both a receiver and blocker. Henry missed four games due to injury last season, but he still had career highs in targets, catches and receiving yards. In three seasons -- he sat out all but one game in 2018 because of a torn anterior cruciate ligament -- Henry has scored 17 touchdowns. Per NFL.com, Henry ranked eighth in fantasy points per game (12.5) among tight ends, and he scored double-digit points in eight of his 12 games in 2019. Whoever is throwing the ball for the Chargers in 2020 will continue to lean on Henry, who should remain a top-10 fantasy tight end. The problem, of course (as noted above), has been staying on the field; Henry's missed 23 games in four years and played just 12 over the last two. Still, as CBSSports.com suggests, with a 71.2-percent career catch rate, he definitely has the potential to approach 1,000-yards if he can manage a full season.
Hunter Henry 2019 Outlook
Henry missed the entire regular season after tearing his ACL on the first day of OTAs last May. In addition, he sat out the final two games of the 2017 campaign after suffering a lacerated kidney in Week 15 that year. So, his return against the Patriots in January's AFC Divisional Playoff game (Henry was on the field for 14 snaps) marked his first action in 57 weeks and three days. Given that, it's no wonder he's eager to start this season. "I'm pretty much full-go," he explained as this year's OTAs commenced. "Everything feels good." According to the team's official website, if you didn't know his history, you might not even realize Henry was returning from injury. Given all that, CBSSports.com believes if you were banking on Henry breaking out last year, you should simply reboot those expectations. "Henry is still just 25 years old and already has an eight-touchdown season on his resume," CBS contends. "Antonio Gates is no longer in the way and Philip Rivers has a long history of leaning on his tight end." We'd be a little worried about Mike Williams eating up some of the red-zone targets, but at a fantasy position mostly bereft of consistent production outside the top-three, taking a shot on Henry at the top of the next tier doesn't seem like much of a reach.
