Taysom Hill 2022 Outlook
The Saints are planning to have Hill focus on tight end instead of playing quarterback, but Drew Brees isn't so sure that's a good idea. Brees, who played with Hill for four years in New Orleans, believes that Hill should keep playing some quarterback, just as he did under former head coach Sean Payton. "You re-sign Jameis [Winston], coming off the knee injury. To me, there's no doubt that he's going to come back stronger than ever and have some more wisdom, experience and maturity under his belt. Andy Dalton played a lot of football, started a lot of games, won a lot of games, taking teams to the playoffs," Brees told NoLa.com. "(But) I still am a believer that Taysom should be playing 10-15 snaps at quarterback a game at a minimum, just with the threat he is. I know he's so valuable in so many other ways. I think they're pretty set at quarterback, if you ask me. ..." Although Payton loved what Hill was able to do as a quarterback/running back/receiver/special teamer, new head coach Dennis Allen seems to want a more traditional approach to the position. You should continue to watch for signs that Hill could have some packages that would utilize him at quarterback -- perhaps limited to red-zone opportunities. Until then, it would be wise to take Allen at his word.

Taysom Hill 2021 Outlook
Drew Brees officially retired and the Saints responded by re-signing Jameis Winston, who has been reported as the likely starter in 2021. Although HC Sean Payton chose Hill as Brees' short-term replacement in 2020, the coach also insisted the team is high on Winston's potential. Whatever the case, Payton has repeatedly stated "our next quarterback's in the building." That being the case, it's fair to say that Hill beating out Winston for the starting role wouldn't be the worst thing from a fantasy perspective. During his four-game audition last season, Hill averaged 21.1 fantasy points per game and ranked as the No. 7 fantasy quarterback. He rushed for 209 yards in that time, which ranked second among quarterbacks behind Lamar Jackson. Projected over a full season, Hill would have finished with 836 yards on the ground, a number that would place him second among quarterbacks behind Jackson (1,005 yards) and ahead of Kyler Murray (819 yards). Hill also completed 72.7 percent of his passes in 2020, which ranks third all-time among quarterbacks who've thrown at least 100 pass attempts. The only two performances above him? Both by Brees in 2018 and 2019. This, and a healthy Michael Thomas, bodes well for whoever starts, whether it's Winston (as expected) or Hill (who still has some stand-alone value in deeper 2QB and super-flex leagues).
