Jamison Crowder 2022 Outlook
Once Cole Beasley was released, the Bills needed a slot receiver, which, as Fansided.com's Dakota Zientek notes, is a big role in this offense. Even with Beasley starting to slip in production, he was a crucial member of the Buffalo Bills' offense. Comparing Crowder to Beasley is a bit of a stretch when looking at their stats lined up together. But, with both of them being slot guys, there's nothing to say Josh Allen can't lead Crowder to a higher potential than Crowder's former quarterbacks. Indeed, the Bills have recently become one of the NFL's highest-scoring offenses, which primes Crowder for a solid season if he steps right in and fills the spot Cole Beasley left. In 2020, Cole Beasley had one of the best seasons of his career, ending the season with 82 receptions, 967 yards, and four touchdowns, as well as a catch percentage of 76.6 percent. Injuries were an issue for Crowder with the Jets last year, but assuming he's healthy to open the season, expect the veteran to remain ahead of rookie fifth-round pick Khalil Shakir. Assuming that's the case, draft him as a late-round flier with some week-to-week upside based on that powerful Buffalo offense.
Jamison Crowder 2021 Outlook
Crowder, who turned 28 in June, ranks seventh in receptions (91) and eighth in yards (1,094) on plays from the slot position over the past two seasons, according to ESPN Stats and Information. That's pretty good production for a player who missed four games in 2020 because of soft-tissue injuries and dealt with inconsistency at the quarterback position. Former Jets coach Adam Gase remarked on numerous occasions Crowder was their best player on offense. All told, Crowder finished with 59 catches for 699 yards -- both team highs in 2020, but pedestrian numbers when viewed through a wider lens. Now though, things have obviously changed. Crowder could provide personnel continuity as the team transitions to a new offense under coach Robert Saleh -- a unit that will be led by rookie QB Zach Wilson. But the addition of second-round pick Elijah Moore, an explosive threat who is best suited to playing the same role that Crowder does, could be an issue for the veteran. Still, by agreeing to take a pay cut in the middle of June (he was due $10 million this year prior to agreeing to a new contract), Crowder assured himself a spot in the rotation, barring any late-summer or training camp moves.
