Cordarrelle Patterson 2023 Outlook
This year might be Patterson’s swan song, if 2022 wasn’t. Now 32, Patterson has had a fascinating career, making four Pro Bowls and four All-Pro first teams as a return specialist. When he caught on with the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, the former track and field star got to show his stuff as a running back rather than a wide receiver, and Arthur Smith used him as much as he could. His career highs in yards from scrimmage (1,166) and total touchdowns (11) came in 2021, but Tyler Allgeier came along in 2022 as a true running back, taking the majority of the carries. Now Patterson must share the ball with Allgeier, eighth overall pick Bijan Robinson and Caleb Huntley. If you’re drafting Patterson this season, it’s likely a late-round flier based on his ability to add receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. Pay attention to how Patterson is used during training camp and preseason first. Even though most leagues will list him as a running back, the Falcons may need to line him up as a wide receiver to get him some action. It’s a position they’re thin at otherwise.

Cordarrelle Patterson 2022 Outlook
From a fantasy football perspective, the best move is often no move at all. ... After having his best season as a Falcon last year, Patterson will stick around for another season. In nine NFL seasons, Patterson has played for five teams and been an All-Pro and a Pro Bowler for two of them with the vast majority of that success coming as a special teamer. But head coach Arthur Smith, known for his innovative offensive thinking, was able to solve the Rubik's cube Patterson's diverse skill set present. With Smith finding the lanes that allowed Patterson to maximize his talents, the veteran became an all-purpose threat and fantasy superstar carrying the ball 153 times for 618 yards and six touchdowns while catching 52 passes for 548 yards and five touchdowns. All those numbers were career-highs. Patterson also had 18 kickoff returns for 434 yards and even played a couple of snaps on defense. So re-signing with the Falcons today is the best possible outcome here. That being the case -- even acknowledging touchdown regression is likely and despite the addition of Damien Williams (ostensibly to replace Mike Davis) and incoming rookie Tyler Allgeier, Patterson's ADP in early best-ball drafts -- RB31 - isn't exorbitant. Expecting another RB1 finish is overly optimistic, but drafting him as a low-end RB2 or high-end RB3 and expecting RB1 totals on occasion is totally realistic.
