Mark Ingram 2022 Outlook
With the possibility Alvin Kamara's legal issues (following assault charges stemming from an incident in Las Vegas during Pro Bowl weekend) costing him time this season, Ingram remains on the fantasy radar heading into the training camp. After leaving New Orleans in 2019, Ingram signed with the Ravens, then with the Texans in 2021 and later dealt back to New Orleans. In 2021, Ingram rushed for 294 yards with Houston and 260 yards with New Orleans. He arrived at the perfect time as Kamara was nursing an injury, so he stepped in and started three games for an extremely thin Saints offense. In case you missed it, the Saints went into the season with a backfield of Kamara and Tony Jones Jr. after releasing Latavius Murray due to cap reasons and the emergence of Jones Jr. in the preseason. As SBNation.com's Brenden Ertle reminded readers, running the ball was a struggle in the early part of the season and injuries late in the year, caused the whole offense to derail. Moving forward Ingram and the Saints have bigger goals. Ingram is 32 years old and now entering a contract year, and he's publicly said that he would like to continue to play here and for longer than that. The best backfield duo in Saints history will hopefully have a full season back together, pending Kamara's trial. That being the case, Ingram will be prime handcuff material.
Mark Ingram 2021 Outlook
Ingram reached agreement on a one-year deal worth up to $3 million with the Texans in March. The Ravens waived Ingram after they were eliminated from the playoffs in a move that became inevitable once Ingram fell out of the team's offensive plans over the final weeks of the season. Ingram, who turned 31 in December, played his final game for the Ravens in Week 17. He was a healthy scratch in both playoff games. In 2020, Ingram had a career-low 72 carries and a career-low 299 rushing yards. Ingram has 7,324 rushing yards in 10 NFL seasons, eight with the Saints. He has 9,219 yards from scrimmage in his career and 72 total touchdowns. In Houston, he'll join a backfield led by David Johnson. The subsequent addition of Phillip Lindsay further dilutes the fantasy value of all involved, although Ingram himself hinted that his presence in Houston might have more to do with the need for veteran leadership than it does on-field production. Indeed, Ingram believes one of the keys to helping Houston have success in 2021 and beyond is the encouragement of younger players. Said Ingram: "That's how you develop a camaraderie within your team. You got to hold each other accountable."
Mark Ingram 2020 Outlook
NFL MVP Lamar Jackson's fleet feet combined with the straight-ahead surge of Ingram, and as a result the Ravens collected an NFL-record 3,296 yards on the ground last season. Ingram and Jackson became just the second RB-QB tandem to crest the 1,000-yard mark in the same season (only Warrick Dunn and Michael Vick had done it previously). It didn't stop there, though, as Gus Edwards eclipsed 700 yards and Justice Hill flashed promise. As acclaimed and talented as the Ravens backfield is, it's also crowded -- even more so now with the addition of J.K. Dobbins, an Ohio State product fresh off a 2,000-yard season. Still, it's not time to bail on the 30-year-old Ingram, who will turn 31 during the season. He eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark for the third time in his career, all of them coming over the past four campaigns. Ingram also found the end zone 15 times, which helped him finish in the top-20 eight times. He ranked second among runners with at least 80 touches in fantasy points per catch (3.10). Bottom line? The arrival of Dobbins could become an issue down the stretch, but much will depend on how productive -- or not -- Ingram is. But for now, the former Saint doesn't show any signs of slowing down.
