Andy Dalton 2023 Outlook
The Andy Dalton Tour heads to Carolina this fall after one-year stops in Dallas, Chicago and New Orleans. He is coming off his best season since leaving Cincinnati, averaging 205.1 yards with 18 touchdown passes in 14 games for the Saints in 2022. He posted multiple scores in four of those starts, including a 361-4-3 game at Arizona in Week 7 and a 260-3-0 performance against the Rams in Week 11. There's a chance Dalton could open the season as the starter for the Panthers, who moved up to take Alabama QB Bryce Young with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. The 35-year-old veteran signed a two-year contract and has been around the league long enough to understand his situation. "That doesn't change my mindset of how I'm going about every single day," Dalton said during OTAs in May. "I know the reality that this thing is gonna be Bryce's at some point. Right now for me it's to go be me out there.'

Andy Dalton 2022 Outlook
Last offseason, Dalton headed to Chicago with a starter's mindset. This year, the 11-year veteran has touched down in New Orleans with the realization that he's there to support incumbent starter Jameis Winston in any way that he can. Having signed a one-year deal with the Saints to back up Winston, Dalton is bound for his fourth team in as many seasons and reserved to being QB2 and everything that goes with it. "This is [Winston's] thing, and I'm here to help him out in any way that I can," Dalton said upon arrival. Having started 148 games over 11 seasons with the Bengals, Cowboys and Bears, Dalton is a three-time Pro Bowler who isn't exactly used to being a backup. Still, he was slated as such in Dallas during the 2020 season and was hardly the undisputed starter during a turbulent 2021 campaign in Chicago. Still, Dalton, has started at least six games every season of his career regardless of his spot on the depth chart ahead of the season opener. The Saints haven't had a quarterback start every regular-season game since Brees in 2017 and the 28-year-old Winston is coming off an ACL tear. Worth noting: With Sean Payton no longer calling the shots in New Orleans, Taysom Hill will focus on playing tight end -- although expecting him to see use a situational QB doesn't seem like a reach.

Andy Dalton 2021 Outlook
Although they moved up in April's draft to land him, the Bears have stated rather clearly that they do not plan on Justin Fields starting this season if all things go according to plan. Giving Fields as much time as possible to ease into the NFL makes sense. Matt Nagy was with the Kansas City Chiefs when they used a similar strategy with Alex Smith and Patrick Mahomes, and Nagy seems set on repeating that approach. But as Fansided.com suggested, while it sounds good in theory for Dalton to lead a playoff team in 2021 and then pass the baton in 2022, the Chiefs were a very rare situation. Expecting Chicago's season to play out the same way seems unlikely. Still, there are positives here. Dalton has familiarity with Bears coordinator Bill Lazor after working with him for three seasons in Cincy. And Dalton fits Nagy's criteria for a starting QB. "I'd say leadership, decision-making and if you have some versatility as a quarterback with your legs, great," Nagy said. Dalton checks those first two boxes. The legs? Well, Fields is obviously the more mobile option here -- and also the one with more fantasy upside. We advise keeping Dalton on your waiver-wire watch list; drafting him, except in the deepest of leagues, seems like a reach.
