The Facts: Williams told reporters he’s been cleared for contact. He added it's up to the coaches on if he plays in the preseason.
Diehards Line:The fact that Williams isn't opening camp on the PUP list is about as good an outcome we could have seen given the severity of the knee injury he suffered last year. As Dr. Jesse Morse of The Fantasy Doctors noted on his Twitter feed, "Only two RBs have met/exceeded expectations in their 1st season back from ACL surgery, Jamaal Charles and Adrian Peterson. As far as we know, only three players have suffered similar injuries to Williams (ACL, LCL, PLC): Carson Wentz, J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. All three returned but struggled in their first year back. ..." Morse summed up: "Assuming Williams doesn’t have any setbacks, it’s possible he’s ready for Week 1, but temper your expectations with this version of ACL tear. ..." Seems reasonable. We'll continue to watch for more on Williams in the coming weeks.
