The Facts: A year ago, Jones faced the most important season of his career. Now, after one season under Brian Daboll, the Giants quarterback has a new contract and a bright future. “I think it’s going to be even a better season now that he has . . . that little bit of sense of relief in the sense that he doesn’t have to prove [anything] to anybody and now he can just go out there and have fun and kick ass,” Giants right guard Mark Glowinski said on the Ross Tucker Football Podcast. “And I think that’s what was showing last year.”
Diehards Line:
Jones, the sixth overall pick in 2019, has played for three head coaches and four offensive coordinators. He now has stability. He also has newfound confidence. And he can run. Jones passed for career bests with 317 completions, 472 attempts, a 67.2 completion percentage and 3,205 yards. Still, he only averaged a tick over 200 yards per game and finished with 15 TD passes in 15 starts last season. Fortunately, he was able to pad his otherwise paltry fantasy stats with 708 yards and seven scores on the ground. He also led the league in interception percentage with just five picks in 472 attempts. There is legit optimism he will make the jump from QB2 to low-end QB1 in 2023 with the additions of TE Darren Waller and WRs Parris Campbell, the re-signing of WR Darius Slayton and the drafting of SEC standout Jalin Hyatt in the third round. A healthy Saquon Barkley, assuming his contract issues are resolved, and a second offseason with OC Mike Kafka will help. "We have confidence in him. We're going to continue to build the team around him," GM Joe Schoen said.
