The Facts: HC Ron Rivera told reporters that Howell will enter training camp as the starting quarterback, according to John Keim of ESPN.
Diehards Line:
This doesn't come as a surprise after Washington gave the 2022 fifth-round pick first-team reps all offseason. The Commanders haven't made Howell compete with Jacoby Brissett to this point and continue to look all in on the second-year quarterback. “He's young, we know he is young,” Rivera said. “There was a lot of room for growth, and we know that, but he's got a good skillset. He's mobile, he’s got good foot movement, he's got quick twitch to him, good decision maker. He is still learning to make those decisions, but he's also got the arm talent and that's the thing that that excites us. ...” Hype for Howell could start to take off if he can carry his strong minicamp into the preseason. Washington is expected to be more pass-heavy under star OC Eric Bieniemy in 2023.
