The Facts: The Packers are tendering restricted free agent Lazard at the second-round level, a source tells NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. That comes with a one-year salary offer of just under $4 million.
Diehards Line:
Lazard will be eligible to receive an offer sheet from another NFL team if they so choose, but the Packers would have the right to match the offer. If he does receive and offer sheet and the Packers decline, the team signing him would forfeit a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to Green Bay as compensation. This move comes amid continued uncertainty regarding the future of Davante Adams. While the Packers have placed the franchise tag on Adams, Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported Monday the five-time Pro Bowler doesn't intend to play on the tag. In addition, the Packers are expected to let Marquez Valdes-Scantling move on a free agent. Given all that, working to keep Lazard makes sense.
