The Facts: According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Gould has agreed to an extension with the 49ers. He will remain with the team for the long term.
Diehards Line:
Gould has been the most accurate kicker in the league in his two seasons in San Francisco, converting 96 percent of his 75 field goal attempts. That kind of production makes him a valuable commodity in a league where kickers seem to miss clutch kicks on a regular basis. That's why the 49ers placed the franchise tag on Gould when they couldn't agree on a new deal before the start of the new league year. Gould requested a trade with talks about a new deal progressing slowly. As Profootballtalk.com notes, Gould expressed a desire to play closer to his family’s home in Chicago if a multi-year deal wasn’t going to come to fruition with the Niners and said recently that he wouldn’t commit to playing in 2019 under the terms of the tag. That’s no longer an issue and Gould is set to be in a 49ers uniform for years to come.
