The Facts: According to Daily News staffer Manish Mehta, Enunwa will be given every opportunity to diversify his portfolio in Adam Gase’s offense. The new coach made it clear that he will give Enunwa every chance to prove that he can run “a variety of routes” to expand his role from last year.
Diehards Line:
As Mehta went on to suggest, the big question with the 6-2, 225-pound Enunwa, whose 7.5 yards after the catch per reception ranked second among receivers last season, is whether he can stay on the field. His toughness has been a blessing and a curse in the first few years of his career. He needs to prove to Gase that he can stay healthy. “It’s a fine line with him,” Gase said. “He is a physical player. He’s a big man. When he gets to the secondary, he’s a tough guy to bring down. We were on opposite teams last year and he carried about 12 guys on his back for about 10 yards. At some point, you’d like him to go down. When you know it’s getting too many, just going down and saving yourself for the next play because we’re going to need him.” Enunwa believes that durability won’t be an issue in 2019. “As I’ve gotten older and smarter, I’ve learned from other guys,” Enunwa said. “Obviously, I want to make as many plays as possible, but I was able to see the film and see plays where a lot of times it’s a lot smarter to get down.” We shall see.
