The Facts: The Athletic’s Jay Glazer went out on a limb Wednesday in forecasting, when asked for a “bold prediction” for this offseason, that the Giants would deal their $95 million star receiver Beckham. “I think that’s bold enough,” Glazer wrote.
Diehards Line:
The notion attracted eyeballs, curiosity, perhaps a Beckham tweet and, apparently, unhinged fury. As the prophecy by one of the top NFL insiders made the rounds, Glazer colorfully suggested deranged Giants fans had taken it personally. But it was not just furious Giants fans who noticed Glazer’s guess. A few hours after the prediction was published, Beckham got back into the cryptic-tweet game, this time offering emojis of a zippered mouth and a smiling face. Giants GM Dave Gettleman said earlier this offseason the Giants would not be dealing the 26-year-old, who signed his megadeal just before the start of last year’s 5-11 season. “We didn’t sign him to trade him, if that’s what you’re asking,” Gettleman said in early January. And while it's hard to imagine them dealing him, Glazer is as well-connected an NFL as you'll find. Seems unlikely he'd make a prediction like this without basing it on something he's heard -- even if he's just predicting and (as is the case here) not reporting it.
