The Facts: The only free agent waters Higgins wants to test are those on the shores of Lake Erie. “I want to be in Cleveland," Higgins told cleveland.com Thursday on radio row at Super Bowl LIII. “No other team. Tell (John) Dorsey, Tell Lonzo (Alonso Highsmith) to get it done.’’
Diehards Line:
Higgins, a favorite target of Baker Mayfield’s, caught 39 passes for 572 yards and four touchdowns in 2018. He believes there’s a lot more where that came from, and he wants to remain with the team that drafted him in the fifth round of the 2016 draft out of Colorado State. Waived in September of 2017 and then signed back to the practice squad, Higgins came on strong last year in large part because of the chemistry he developed with Mayfield in training camp when both were toiling on the second-team offense. Due to become a restricted free agent in March, Higgins wants to wrap up a long-term deal before any other team has a crack at him. At the Senior Bowl last week, Browns GM John Dorsey said he’s started extension talks for Higgins, Breshad Perriman, Greg Robinson and others. Higgins' agent, Michael Swensen, told cleveland.com “we’re getting there.”
