The Facts: According to New York Daily News staffer Pat Leonard, Eli Manning admitted Tuesday that Barkley’s hamstring sidelining him from practice and preseason action is a concern with the regular season quickly approaching. “Just because he’s a rookie and missing some valuable time," the QB said. "So I know he’s getting mental reps. It’s different than practice reps; it’s different than game reps. Hopefully he can get back soon."
Diehards Line:
Barkley on Tuesday continued to sit out practice eight days since straining his left hamstring during an indoor practice on Aug. 13 in East Rutherford. Barkley did plenty of running and agility work separately with the training staff, but with only one more Wednesday practice remaining before Thursday’s walkthrough, Barkley seems to be in line to sit out a second straight preseason game after missing last week’s win over the Lions in Detroit. Head coach Pat Shurmur said of Barkley: “We like the path he’s on.” But really the priority is having Barkley ready for Week 1 of the regular season Sept. 9 against Jacksonville, so it wouldn’t be shocking if he sits out until then.
