The Facts: HC Jay Gruden told reporters today it might be hard for Doctson to put up eye-popping stats overall because the Redskins spread the ball around. But Gruden added: "In the red zone is where he'll be most dangerous."
Diehards Line:After a lost rookie season, Doctson showed signs of progress last year. He had six touchdowns and averaged 14.3 yards per catch although he also had some key drops. That said, Doctson's ability to win when the ball is in the air is noteworthy. His superior body control allows him to make spectacular catches look routine. In addition, Doctson played all 16 games last season after appearing in only two games as a rookie due to lingering issues with an injured Achilles tendon in 2016. This season, the Redskins expect Doctson to get more "50-50" balls thanks to Alex Smith. Gruden said earlier this offseason that he doesn't have "any doubts that Alex can throw the deep ball," and as a result, he expects Doctson to thrive working with their new quarterback. While nobody should bank on a breakout year, it's certainly within the realm of possibility. And the price? It's right.
