The Facts: Meredith's restricted free agency tour made a third stop last week as the Bears wide receiver visited the Saints on Saturday, an NFL source said.
Diehards Line:
Meredith has visited the Colts, Ravens and now the Saints since last Tuesday as they all seek information on where he’s at in the rehabilitation process coming back from the torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee that he suffered in the third preseason game at Tennessee last August. Meredith also suffered a partially torn medial collateral ligament in the left knee but the target right now is for him to be ready for the start of training camp. It’s possible the Bears will soon be in a position where they need to make a decision on whether or not to match an offer sheet for Meredith. One source told Tribune staffer Brad Biggs the Ravens are considering presenting an offer to Meredith. The Saints could be bracing for the possibility they lose Willie Snead or simply looking for a big body that can potentially help quarterback Drew Brees and the offense. The Bears tendered Meredith, an undrafted free agent in 2015, at the original round level. That means the 25-year-old will earn $1.907 million this season but the Bears have only the right of first refusal on an offer sheet and will not receive compensation if another team signs him and the Bears elects not to match the contract.
