The Facts: The Panthers are trading CB Daryl Worley to the Eagles in exchange for Smith, sources tell ESPN.
Diehards Line:
Smith, who was signed as a free agent, had 36 receptions for 430 yards and two touchdowns in his lone season with the Eagles. Carolina was said to be interested in upgrading their receiving corps to give support alongside Devin Funchess, who only at times resembled a go-to receiver. Lack of experience on the outside is evident and the Panthers can't afford to wait for all their talent on hand to develop. The Panthers are counting on Curtis Samuel's speed making him a factor when healthy. In addition, Damiere Byrd and Kaelin Clay showed that they can make impact plays with their speed. Byrd was clutch in December before an injury, but Smith's arrival muddies the water a bit.
