The Facts: Thomas never played in Miami the way he played for Adam Gase during their days in Denver. According to ESPN.com's Dan Graziano, the Dolphins need to find a more permanent answer at the position.
Diehards Line:
As the Sports Xchange notes, Thomas (41 receptions, 388 yards, three touchdowns) was a disaster relative to the expectations. Beyond Thomas, Anthony Fasano was decent, but is contemplating retirement. MarQueis Gray is a good athlete, but not an ideal starter. Major help is needed here. Miami might draft a tight end, but that will depend on free agency. The Dolphins haven't cemented this position in years, and with Gase's forward-thinking offense, you would think this would be a priority. The problem is Miami has other major priorities. Ideally, the Dolphins acquire what Thomas was in Denver under Gase - an athletic, seam-running tight end.
