The Facts: Manning is "excited" to begin working with his new head coach and offensive play-caller, Pat Shurmur. "(I'm) just excited to see how he calls games, how he looks at defenses, how he wants to pick them apart and just seeing his insight to that and learn from it," Manning said. "So we can see things the same way, have great communication and figure out how to score some points."
Diehards Line:Manning, 37, is coming off his worst statistical season, throwing just 19 touchdowns to 13 interceptions and for 3,468 yards — his fewest since 2008. The Giants' former coach, Ben McAdoo, benched Manning with a month left in the season in order to give the other quarterbacks on the staff a closer look — a move that was the final straw that ultimately cost McAdoo his job and led to Manning returning as the starting quarterback. Manning does have somewhat of a pre-existing relationship with Shurmur. The Giants head coach's son, Kyle, is a quarterback at Vanderbilt and attended the Manning Passing Academy last season, where Manning got to meet his future head coach and his son. Manning said he plans to look at the job Shurmur has done with the Vikings this past season. "I think I'll definitely look at the Vikings offense from this past year and see what they did as he's installing his offense and plays," Manning said. "You like to look back and see why they worked, why they didn't work and just learn if there's some new concepts. It's really just about getting face to face with him and learning how he goes through reads and make sure we're on the same page." We'll be following that process all offseason.
