The Facts: Todd Haley will become the Browns' next offensive coordinator, according to sources familiar with negotiations.
Diehards Line:
This according to NFL Network's Michael Silver, who is close to Browns HC Hue Jackson. His reporting confirms what the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot reported earlier. Haley, who did not have his contract renewed by the Steelers last week after their 45-42 loss to the Jaguars in the divisional round of the playoffs, has spent the past six seasons as Pittsburgh's coordinator, running one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL. With Haley's vast experience, especially in the AFC North, he'll likely take over playcalling duties from HC Hue Jackson, who said he'd turn them over to an experienced coordinator. While Haley apparently clashed with Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, over the past four seasons, the Steelers were second in scoring only to the Patriots. They have been in the top 10 in the NFL in scoring in each of those four years, the club's longest such streak since the 1970s. In 2017, the Steelers finished in the top 10 in several key offensive categories, including total yards (third), yards per play (seventh), net passing yards per game (third), third down efficiency (second), and points per game (eighth). Haley inherits two new assistant coaches Jackson hired this offseason in receivers coach Adam Henry, formerly with the Giants; and quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese, former offensive coordinator of the Bengals.
