The Facts: Conley should continue to play the "X" receiver spot, which is more of a possession-type position in coach Andy Reid's offense, but Conley did mention Wednesday that he has been moving around the last two practices, including assuming some of recently-released Jeremy Maclin's role. "Other than that," Conley said, "Things are really the same."
Diehards Line:
Tyreek Hill, 23, was the Chiefs’ top wide receiver last season, leading the position group with 83 targets, 61 receptions, 593 yards and six touchdowns. He'll be handling the "Z" receiver spot that Maclin previously manned. But the team will need Conley to step up this season. Of course, Maclin’s numbers were nearly identical to the 24-year-old Conley last year. But Conley, who was on the field for 84 percent of the Chiefs' pass plays, handled only 4.1 targets per game in 2016, and he ended the regular season having the most targets (66), receptions (44) and receiving yards (530) among WRs who failed to score a single touchdown. He will enter 2017 behind Travis Kelce and Hill in terms of priority in the passing game -- an attack that hasn't exactly instilled great fear in opposing defenses beyond the individual skills of Kelce and Hill.
