The Facts: Welker took part in OTA sessions with the Dolphins and Ravens last month, but he wasn't in his familiar role as a target for passes. Welker served as a guest coach for each of the teams, which seemed to signal that a move into coaching had replaced playing as the next step in his professional football career. That may be where things are headed for Welker, but he isn't quite ready to slam the door on a return to the field. "There's like a small percentage out there for the right situation, the right team. I would still go out there, but I think it all depends," Welker said on Sirius XM NFL Radio. "If I got a good job offer to go somewhere else, I'd probably go that route."
Diehards Line:
As PFT reminded readers, Welker was in a similar position last year and wound up signing with the Rams around midseason. He didn’t make much of an impact on the field and admits his concussion history is a factor that has to be taken into consideration, especially because his wife and family are concerned about his health over the long term. Welker says he’s “not extremely football fit” and thinks it would take a few weeks to get himself ready to play, something that might not make him all that appealing to teams that would probably be looking for some more immediate help in the wake of an injury. PFT summed up: "For that reason along with the concussion history and limited productivity over the last two seasons, Welker’s future seems likelier to involve off-field responsibilities."
