The Facts: Robinson had to climb out of a sinking car following a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning. Nobody was injured and no citations were issued. According to a police report from the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office, at about 4:20 a.m. on Sunday, an officer spotted a Chevrolet Impala in a retention pond off Beach Boulevard. The driver's side door was submerged in the water and the officer noticed both the driver and passenger "looked to be asleep/passed out," before the officer started knocking on the passenger's window. "The driver (Robinson) opened his eyes and then went back to sleep," the report states.
Diehards Line:
After waking up, Robinson thought he was on a road and didn't want to get out of the car. The officer repeatedly told Robinson the car was in a pond and sinking and had to remove Robinson's seatbelt and turn off the vehicle. Robinson repeatedly attempted to exit from the driver's side door, which was under water, before finally exiting from the passenger's side. The officer stated that Robinson made a wide turn that caused the car to go over the sidewalk and into the pond and there were no skid marks indicating he attempted to slow down. The report states that a separate officer screened Robinson and determined he was not impaired and should not be charged with DUI. The Jaguars issued a statement saying "The team is aware that running back Denard Robinson was involved in a single-car accident over the weekend and is thankful that nobody was injured." Robinson on Tuesday tweeted that he was in an accident, thankful nobody was hurt and added "I should not have been driving that late or when I was that tired, but again, I'm just glad that everyone was safe. God Bless."
