The Facts: The team announced Thursday that they have waived Patrick Murray.
Diehards Line:The Buccaneers traded up in the second round in order to draft kicker Roberto Aguayo this year, which didn’t leave much mystery about who they will have handling field goals and extra points this season. As a result of Aguayo’s arrival, they released Connor Barth just after the draft. Now they’ve parted ways with the other kicker on their roster. Murray made 20-of-24 field goals and all 31 extra points he tried during the 2014 season, but was waived/injured before the start of last season and wound up on injured reserve after going through waivers unclaimed. Getting dropped now is likely to Murray’s benefit as he won’t have to spend the rest of the offseason working with the Bucs despite knowing that Aguayo was 99.9 percent sure of getting the nod when it came time to cut the roster down to 53 players. He’ll now have a chance to catch on somewhere that offers him a better shot of sticking into the regular season.
