The Facts: Lockette is walking away from football. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday that the Seattle Seahawks wide receiver is retiring. The Seahawks have scheduled a news conference with Lockette on Thursday.
Diehards Line:Lockette sustained ligament damage in his neck in Seattle's Week 8 win against the Dallas Cowboys last season. Lockette was covering a punt when a hit from Jeff Heath of the Cowboys initially left Lockette motionless on the field for several minutes. He spent four nights in the hospital and underwent surgery before returning to Seattle. Lockette had said he expected to play again in the weeks following his injury. In March, he said doctors told him he could have died on the field. Lockette, 29, made the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent in 2011. He had 22 career receptions, four for touchdowns.
