The Facts: Webb agreed to a two-year contract with the Panthers a day before the start of free agency, according to his agency's Twitter account.
Diehards Line:
Webb, entering his seventh season in the league, is Carolina’s third quarterback, fifth receiver on game days, emergency running back and special teams ace who plays in all phases of the unit. He joined the Panthers after four seasons in Minnesota in 2014. Cam Newton was recovering from offseason ankle surgery and wouldn’t be available during spring and summer workouts, so Carolina needed a dual-threat quarterback who could execute its offense like Newton. He has never played quarterback in a game for Carolina and has just one catch for 16 yards with the Panthers. But his versatility – being able to do so much on offense when only 46 of the 53 players are active on game days – and his importance to Carolina’s special teams made it clear the Panthers would want him back in 2016.
