The Facts: The Jets reportedly made an unsuccessful waiver claim for Tim Wright, but that didn’t lead them to bring their quest to add a former Patriots tight end to a halt. The team announced on Monday that they have signed Maneri, who has had a pair of stints with New England over the course of his career.
Diehards Line:The Jets made room for Maneri on the roster by dropping yet another former Patriot in Zach Sudfeld. Sudfeld has been waived/injured as a result of a torn ACL. Maneri played one game for the Patriots last season and also spent time on the team’s active roster and practice squad during the 2010 season. Maneri has also spent time with the Chiefs, Bears and Buccaneers and his biggest playing time came while with the Chiefs in 2011 and 2012. Maneri caught six passes for 52 yards in 19 games for Kansas City. Sudfeld, who tore his ACL at last week’s minicamp, had 10 catches for the Jets over the last two years. Maneri and Kellen Davis will likely battle for a spot behind Jace Amaro and Jeff Cumberland.
