The Facts: Wright caught six touchdowns for the Patriots last season, but it doesn’t appear he’ll be getting a chance to return to the end zone for the team this season. Mike Garafolo of FOX Sports reports that the Patriots have released Wright, who joined the team in a trade for guard Logan Mankins last offseason.
Diehards Line:
Wright caught 26 passes for 259 yards overall last season, but had just three catches the last five weeks of the regular season and didn’t catch a pass at all in the playoffs. The Patriots signed Scott Chandler and Fred Davis as free agents and drafted A.J. Derby this offseason, so they still have several options at the position to go with Rob Gronkowski and Michael Hoomanawanui. Wright had 54 catches and five touchdowns during his rookie season with the Bucs in 2013 and there should be a fair amount of interest in his services on the open market.
